Euroleague Basketball agrees partnership with IQONIQ platform

Euroleague Basketball has increased its fan engagement capabilities after announcing a four year partnership with sports and entertainment platform IQONIQ.

As part of the agreement, IQONIQ becomes Euroleague Basketball’s exclusive and official fan engagement and loyalty platform for the continent’s two men’s basketball competitions, the Turkish Airlines EuroLeague and the 7DAYS EuroCup.

Both competitions in total cover 42 basketball clubs across 19 countries with a reach of 200m fans worldwide, highlighting why fan engagement is important for the organisation in order to utilise this potentially lucrative market.

Jordi Bertomeu, CEO of Euroleague Basketball commented: “Partnering with IQONIQ will help us achieve a new milestone in engagement with our fans. IQONIQ offers us the chance to build special relationships within our growing fan base and to bring that community closer together over a shared love of uniquely European basketball at its finest.

“In the last 20 years since the Euroleague Basketball’s inception, we’ve created a community of fans that we want to continue supporting. Having a fan ecosystem is the next logical step and we are eager to discover with IQONIQ new ways of rewarding our loyal fans.”

IQONIQ is a new social media platform that specifically targets the world of sport, rewarding fans with a loyalty program. The application will integrate various Euroleague Basketball content into its platform with IQONIQ set to launch before the league’s 2020-21 season.

Kazim Atilla, CEO of IQONIQ stated: “We are delighted to have signed this partnership agreement with EuroLeague Basketball, one of the most innovative and forward-thinking sports organizations in the world.

“Through this partnership, all clubs in the EuroLeague and EuroCup basketball competitions will be given unprecedented opportunities to engage with their fans, and vice versa, in new and mutually beneficial ways, further growing basketball across Europe – and the rest of the world – as a result. We look forward to working alongside Euroleague Basketball to fulfil our common ambitions in this regard.”

Euroleague Basketball represents the third high-profile announcement within a month for the new social media platform, with AS Monaco and Olympique de Marseille signing similar fan engagement agreements for when the application officially launches.
