BeIN Sports ties down NBA in French broadcast agreement

The National Basketball Association (NBA) will remain on BeIN Sports after the pay-television broadcaster renewed its French rights deal with the league.

Under the terms of the agreement, which runs until 2024, BeIN will carry 20 weekend primetime games during the first half of the 2020/21 season. This includes five games from the annual Christmas showcase, along with the NBA Playoffs, the NBA Finals and the NBA Draft.

The new season begins on 22 December with Golden State Warriors clash against Brooklyn Nets to be the first game to air on BeIN Sports.

BeIN Chief Executive, Yousef Al-Obaidly, said: “We are delighted to extend our valued partnership with the NBA in France to 2024. This new deal perfectly illustrates our balanced approach when selecting content and acquiring rights, in line with our clear and rational business plan.”

BeIN Sports 1, which has been associated with the NBA since 2012, will continue to offer the NBA Xtra Daily show, which is scheduled for every weekday afternoon.

In addition, the Qatar-based broadcaster will continue to run the NBA’s official website in France, to keep French viewers up to date with scores, statistics, latest news and highlights.

Al-Obaidly continued: “This latest NBA deal further strengthens the fantastic portfolio of rights we will showcase on BeIN Sports France over the next 12 months, including Euro 2020, La Liga, Serie A, Bundesliga, Wimbledon, NFL, handball, rugby and much more, together with the UEFA Champions League from 2021/22 onwards.”

Last week, the BeIN Media Group extended its Middle East and North Africa (MENA) rights deal with the Premier League and continues to lock down fresh deals with its existing broadcast partners ahead of the new campaign.
